Michael Schatz

Michael Schatz is a multi-talented art sleuth who can take on any sort of mission. He has a reputation as a detailed investigator who works on the road and in the books, and has been known to identify fakes or discern false attributions, as well as discover artists of unsigned paintings.

 

He offers art historical writing and research services for film, television and print as well as independent appraisals of artworks and objects.

 

Specialising in 19th and 20th century Latin American Art, colonial wall painting in the Americas, German porcelain and 19th century world travel artists. He is a primary author for the Encyclopedia of World Artists (Allgemeine Künstlerlexicon) published by De Gruyter as the specialist on Colombian artists.

 

Recent projects include:

• Ivo Schaible: Dibujos de Colombia, Michael Schatz. An extended artist monograph written in Spanish and published by Schahl Kunstverlag, February 2015.

• Monograph Ivo Schaible: Kolumbiansiches Zeichenbuch Michael Schatz. Published in German by Schahl Kunstverlag, April 2012.
